What causes one to be addicted to gambling

Gambling allures its victims by the prospect of a flashy life where money is easy to make. Gambling brings about euphoria that is similar to that brought about by drugs such as cocaine thus explaining the addiction. Advertising is another avenue that is used in attracting people to gamble.
People are bombarded with adverts on the television that show how someone placed say a state lottery or lotto and their life dramatically changed. Big companies promote their products by organizing events such as raffles for flashy things such as cars. The result is the cooperate world makes it seem gambling as a safe way of getting quick cash concealing its dangers. Once one has begun gambling addiction is first brought about by a phase known as the winning phase. In time the winning does not become enough and the gambler begins to want more and more, so he/she pours in more cash. The urge to win more increases and in no time the gambler is looking for other gambling options available that offer higher returns.
The gambler finds himself/herself taking part in more than one form of gambling to the extent that the form of gambling no longer matters so long as it has some gains. The next phase that causes further addiction is known as the losing phase. The gambler begins to lose and because he/she had now become a big cash injector, the losses come in huge amounts. This stage brings the feeling of wanting to get back all that is lost and get back to winning ways. The losses may become so great that the gambler can no longer manage on their own, for they have lost more than they ever won. The gambler then resorts to getting loans from friends and credit facilities. The debts become so great that the gambler can no longer afford to pay back and the only way he/she could pay back was to get back the winning formula. The gambler is left with no choice but to continue being in the game and try get back to winning ways even if it means going deeper and deeper into debt for it is no longer a game but an addiction.
